Celebrity chef Bobby Flay recently engaged with fans on Instagram, answering a variety of fun questions about his show and the culinary world. One fan asked if Carmy, the talented but troubled chef from the hit FX drama “The Bear,” would stand a chance on “Beat Bobby Flay.”
Flay’s response was candid: “No. Carmy (the character) overthinks everything. The clock would run out on him while he’s thinking about how to approach the dish,” he wrote. Flay pointed out that getting caught up in details and perfectionism—a hallmark of Carmy’s character—can be a chef’s downfall on a fast-paced competition like “Beat Bobby Flay.”
“The Bear” follows chef Carmen ‘Carmy’ Berzatto as he returns to his family’s sandwich shop after his brother’s death, struggling to revive the business while wrestling his own demons from years in high-pressure kitchens.
In addition to the Carmy question, Flay shared other behind-the-scenes tidbits from his show:
- When asked if he ever laughs during the face-off with other chefs, Flay said, “Always. It’s not life or death. We’re just cooking a dish.”
- On his favorite contestants, he replied, “Anyone who wants to have a good time and celebrate their skills.”
“Beat Bobby Flay” is now in its 39th season, airing Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on Food Network. Stay tuned for more culinary clashes and celebrity chef insights!
